Helle Spire dagger
At Helle, we take learning seriously. Spire - the smallest knife in our new series of starter knives - is made with this in mind. This is a knife that invites use, learning and mastery, but at the same time emphasize that a knife is a tool that demands respect. A knife that sows a sprout that can grow on to bigger challenges.
Spire is a small knife designed according to many of the same principles as Helle, which we emphasize when we make knives for larger hands. The handle is made with ergonomics and fit in mind - the most important thing about a handle is that you have a good grip. Here, small hands have room for four fingers with a good margin, and adult hands have plenty of room for three. At the front of the blade, a significant finger stop is integrated into the oiled shaft of West Norwegian birch.
The blade is made of knife steel 12C27, and is small and sharp, so that even inexperienced users should feel control, mastery and joy when using it rather than the frustration that dull or too large knives bring. The tip is round, but not blunt. The design is such that the focus should be on learning to use the knife properly.
The knife comes in a natural leather sheath embossed with an illustration of a sprouting plant. The sheath is designed with both a notch and a push button, which ensures that the knife is firmly in place.
Spire is a knife that invites serious use and learning. It therefore has no paring bar, uncomfortable grip, dull egg or blunt tip that many other starter knives have. This is because new users must learn how to use the knife properly, and respect that it is a tool that requires knowledge and concentration. We think this is best done if you are taught by others with knife knowledge, so that with time and moments you can grow into a bigger knife and pass the knowledge on to the next generation.
